A full set of architectural plans is required by the assessor which clearly specifies the orientation, layout, constructions elements and details of the building geometry and its shading components. If design of lighting and HVAC systems of the development are also completed, the specifications and design plans of these areas also need to be provided to the BCA Section J assessor for inclusion in the DTS Section J report.

Generally the same level of information which is required for a deemed to satisfy assessment of section J of the BCA is suitable to complete the EnergyPlus modelling of the building required for the BCA Section J alternative solution JV3. In many cases however, that information is requested by the BCA Section J assessor with more details. Completion of an EnergyPlus building energy model requires the entire geometry of the building to be modelled in a different computer program than the CAD software, therefore, many extra details and views will be necessary. Provision of 3D renders of architectural external views of the building would be particularly beneficial to create a more accurate building energy model. If sources of renewable energy are being proposed in the building design, then information about those systems also needs to be presented to the BCA Section J assessor of the project.
