BCA Section J Assessor

A BCA section J assessor is a professional consultant engineer with comprehensive knowledge in the areas of energy efficiency, mechanical and HVAC system operations and thermal performance of building envelope elements. The role of the assessor is to prepare a BCA Section J compliant report using one of the recognised methods of compliance under section J of the BCA. Eco Certificate assessors have hundreds of projects in their resume with a very vast deviation in complexity and scope therefore their assessment come with the natural guarantee of being comprehensive, detailed and accurate.

Information required by a BCA Section J assessor for a deemed to satisfy assessment

To compile the report a BCA Section J assessor should complete calculations for envelope glazing elements and maximum allowable lighting power of the proposed development. A full set of architectural plans is required by the assessor which clearly specifies the orientation, layout, constructions elements and details of the building. If design of lighting and HVAC systems of the development is also completed the specifications and design plans of these areas also need to be provided to the BCA Section J assessor.

Information required by a BCA Section J assessor for an alternative solution JV3 assessment

Generally the same level of information which is required for a deemed to satisfy assessment of section J of the BCA is suitable to complete the EnergyPlus modeling of the building required for the alternative solution JV3. In many cases however that information is requested by the BCA Section J assessor with more details. Completion of an EnergyPlus building energy model requires the entire geometry of the building to be modelled in a different computer program than the CAD software so many extra details and views will be necessary. If sources of renewable energy are being proposed in the building design then information about those systems also need to presented to the BCA Section J assessor of the project.
